Im new to tape, and am no expert, but the tape seems high quality to me. Sounds very vibrant and certainly better than the re-recorded stuff ive been playing with. I also cant express how awesome it is the Toronto location is right by my work. Not easy to find new tape at a decent price so that was a real bonus. The pancakes are sturdy, and i was able to easily transfer it using my machine to an old reel that couldnt be openned normally. I plan to buy more for sure.

Just bought a vintage AKAI reel to reel that came with two 10” reels full of old tape. Got rid of the old tape and started searching on line for new tape. Was surprised to find a source right here in Ontario Canada to my delight. Ordered two 1/4 x 3600 ft on a nab hub and transferred them to two empty metal reels and started recording some vinyl. They sound great and will not hesitate to order more. Thanks.

The reels are fine and not the slightest bit bent. They look like a 3M reel, but without any brand markings. The boxes are quite good too and they have a raised aluminum hub. I cheaply acquired several new old stock 7 inch reels of tape and I wanted to make some one splice 3600 foot reels, so I bought these. The price of these reels is lower that what a lot of people are asking for used ones without a box.

Does the job and gives a good reference at the specified level and frequency.

It's not a multi-frequency, multi-track tape, but you're not buying something massively complex, your'e buying a single tone at a set magnetic flux to calibrate from. This is what you want.

When you've got a reference you know is calibrated independently, this allows you to set your 'zero', and from then, you can build and cross-reference from other external sources.

There's test CD's you can burn, then get a level from that to check against, then test against other machines. CD's are good as they're fixed and self-checking.
Pitch-check against the level from them, then adjust with a speed tape on your tape deck, and also the RMS output at 0dB on the CD player and then your tape machine. Build inwards, and backwards.
You'll need to be dilligent and methodical but you'll get there.

Join a forum like www.tapeheads.net or www.stereo2go.com and contribute and learn from the expertise there too.

Don't forget the tape speed/pitch calibration tape too. I'd recommend the both of them.
