What's the Difference Between Replication and Duplication?

Replication is a term that applies to optical disc manufacturing, and describes the professionally pressed silver discs you would find in stores. With replication, your music or data is recorded onto a glass master. From the glass master we make nickel stampers. The stampers are placed onto injection molding machines where raw plastic (polycarbonate) is injected and molded into the shape of a CD or DVD. The discs are molded replicas of the original glass master. CD replication is ideal for a professional presentation, runs of over 250 units, and to be compatible with a wide range of CD players. Over time, the lasers in CD players weaken, and will have more trouble playing a duplicated CD-R rather than a replicated disc.

CD Duplication is the process for burning discs, otherwise known as CD-Rs. These are ideal for shorter-run albums or demos, or simply for those who have cost in mind. There is no minimum order, and the turnaround time is within a week. In addition to silkscreen print, we can also print using high quality Epson inkjet.

Replicated discs are printed using silkscreen, which can have up to four different spot colors or a full CMYK image. This is the highest quality print available for disc. CD duplication can also be printed using silkscreen, or our high quality Epson digital print.
